Kent County Arts and Entertainment - December 2012

Kent County has been recognized by the Maryland State Arts Council as one of the significant arts communities in the state. With this in mind, we have designed the Arts & Entertainment site to provide you with information on what the county has to offer in relation to its arts, entertainment, and cultural heritage. Hopefully, this will help you plan a fun-filled stay, enabling you to take full advantage of places to go and people to see.   • Duo Transatlantique combines the prize-winning talents of classical guitarists Benjamin Beirs from Baltimore and Maud Laforest from Lilles, France. The duo formed in 2002 at Peabody under the guidance of Julian Gray and almost immediately realized that theirs was a celebration of the power of music to cross bridges, cultures, and time zones.   • The Chester River Chorale sponsors the Messiah Sing-In, with artistic director Doug Cox and accompanist Sam Marshall leading the assembled participants in a reading of George Frederick Handel's Messiah, the most well-known choral composition of the Western world. This cherished annual event is a celebration of not only Handel's great oratorio, but also an affirmation of the community's love of singing, with audience and chorale members singing the choruses and guest artists performing the solos.

  • Dr. Keith Wharton will direct the community concert band in its annual holiday concert. One highlight of the program will be a reading, by Mark Mumford, of Clement Moore's poem now popularly known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," accompanied by the band.
