Kent County Arts and Entertainment - December 2013

Kent County has been recognized by the Maryland State Arts Council as one of the significant arts communities in the state. With this in mind, we have designed the Arts & Entertainment site to provide you with information on what the county has to offer in relation to its arts, entertainment, and cultural heritage. Hopefully, this will help you plan a fun-filled stay, enabling you to take full advantage of places to go and people to see.   • Voices span the generations as the Chorale is joined by Bay Area youth choruses to sing in Christmas and Chanukah accompanied by a small chamber orchestra. Works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel honoring the Nativity are featured, along with music commonly heard in Synagogue, led by Chestertown Cantor Gary Schiff. The chorale reprises its show-stopping rendition of 'Chanukah, Oh Chanukah', along with familiar carols and holiday tunes such as 'White Christmas' on which the audience can croon along.

  • This free-admission program of Christmas and Hanukkah music will appeal to listeners of all ages. The audience is also invited to a post-concert reception for refreshments and socializing. The entry from the old courthouse lawn area is handicapped-accessible. The ESWE is an all-ages community concert band based in Chestertown and is directed by Dr. Keith Wharton.   • Jointly sponsored by CRC and Garfield Center for the Arts at The Prince Theatre, this event is Chestertown’s answer to a global phenomenon – the annual community sing-along of George Frederick Handel’s Messiah (Part I) – a true experience in community performance art. If you do not have a personal copy of the music, fear not, for behold, I bring you good news . . . CRC will make available a copy for your use! All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Kent County Food Pantry. Recommended $20.00 donation at the door. Cash or checks encouraged, payable to Kent County Food Pantry.   • The Messiah Sing-In is a cherished annual community singing event, featuring professional soloists, the glorious voices of the audience, and a string quartet. This year's Sing-In is sponsored by the Chester River Chorale, the Garfield Center, and the Kent County Food Pantry. In keeping with the premier of Handelís beloved oratorio, this year's Sing-in is a fundraiser with contributions going to the Food Pantry.
