Kent County Arts and Entertainment Events - February 2015

Kent County has been recognized by the Maryland State Arts Council as one of the significant arts communities in the state. With this in mind, we have designed the Arts & Entertainment site to provide you with information on what the county has to offer in relation to its arts, entertainment, and cultural heritage. Hopefully, this will help you plan a fun-filled stay, enabling you to take full advantage of places to go and people to see.   • Artists compose with color and texture, line, shape and size. RiverArts invites artists to explore the relationship of these elements of art by breaking away from the traditional representation of physical objects, to create abstractions. This departure from the traditional can be partial or total; but each piece will challenge the viewer to think creatively and to ask such questions as “How does this make me feel?” and “What creative process did the artist experience?”

  • Woodworker’s Showcase, a Judged Show Established and emerging woodworking artists are invited to enter their original creations in wood made by any woodworking technique. The curators seek to present the best in high-quality woodworking and design. The beauty of the wood form and finish will be enhanced by the concurrent Abstractions Exhibition, featuring two-dimensional art which also emphasizes beauty in shape, line and space. Entries will be judged with modest cash prizes awarded.

  • A prominent African American church in downtown Chestertown, Janes Church has a rich history dating back to 1831. Its history will be traced through the stories and photographs of its members as part of the celebration of Black History Month.

  • Director Diane Landskroener seeks to cast five women and three men, in ages ranging from late 20s to 60 or so, and encourages everyone with an interest in performing on stage to try out. Actors will perform in various accents, English and Italian, but auditioners with no experience should not shy away. You can be taught!   • Lena Seikaly is a masterful vocalist whose captivating interpretations and exquisite voice have made her a favorite at the Mainstay in her two appearances in “Art of the Song.” She is a swiftly rising star in the Washington jazz scene.
