Kent County has been recognized by the Maryland State Arts Council as one of the significant arts communities in the state. With this in mind, we have designed the Arts & Entertainment site to provide you with information on what the county has to offer in relation to its arts, entertainment, and cultural heritage.   • 12@Hotchkiss is a noon-hour concert series featuring acclaimed artists from the Mid-Atlantic region. Held on the first Fridays of Sep, Oct, Nov, Feb, & Apr, admission is FREE. Concerts are sponsored by the Department of Music of Washington College. Violinist Nikita Borisevich swept onto the Russian stage as one of today’s most promising young virtuosos. At fifteen, he won a Russian National Competition for Violinists and Cellists called “The Magical Bow” in Perm, Russia.

  • This concert of Brazilian jazz for classical guitar celebrates of the release of the Nate Najar Trio’s "Aquarela Do Brasil," a collection of much loved Brazilian melodies, Jobim masterpieces and jazz tunes given the samba treatment. Nate Najar one of the few guitarists playing jazz on the classical guitar and was inspired by Charlie Byrd. He will be joined by Alejandro Arenas on bass and Mark Feinman on drums Admission is $20.   • The Imagination Library is coming your way. Families with children ages 5 and under are invited for a night of music, art, stories, snacks and fun. The evening will begin with a nursery rhyme rock concert by Mr. Sam at 5pm, followed by a series of activities for little ones to enjoy.   • Mystery Writer Brad Parks, winner of the Shamus, Nero, and Lefty Awards, will speak at the Chesterown Branch of the Kent County Public Library. As the only author to have won all three of these awards celebrating excellence in the detective and mystery genres, he will offer listeners an interesting glimpse into the crafting of a good mystery. Beginning at 5:30, the general public is invited to meet the author during a catered reception. A limited number of copies of several of Mr. Parks' books will be available for purchase and signing. At 6:30, Mr. Parks will present "Inside the Mind of a Mystery Writer." Due to limited seating, tickets are required to attend this talk and are available FREE OF CHARGE on a first come, first served basis.
