PUBLIC HEARING - August 27, 2013

CHR 4-2013 ~ MICROBREWERY

A public hearing was held today at 6:09 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room, R. Clayton Mitchell Jr., County Government Center, Chestertown, Maryland, for CHR 4-2013, which is AN ACT to amend Article V, Section 11.2 and Article XI, Section 2 Definitions, of the Kent County Land Use Ordinance to add a permitted use and include the definition of Microbrewery.

County Commissioners, Ronald Fithian, William Pickrum, and William Short were in attendance as well as Ernest Crofoot, County Administrator.

Commissioner Fithian read the public notice into the record.

Amy Moredock, Director, Planning, Housing, and Zoning, stated that the Planning Commission had reviewed the proposed zoning text amendment and voted unanimously to send a favorable review to the Commissioners. The amendment adds a permitted use to the Commercial District, Microbrewery; as specifically defined by the State of Maryland, and Microbrewery is added to the definition section of the Land Use Ordinance.

Commissioner Fithian invited comments and questions from the audience. Seven people, which included the petitioner, Kevin Shertz, expressed their support of the legislation, and stated it would be a great fit for the community; it would promote tourism and economic development within the County.

Written comments will be accepted in the Commissioners’ Office until Friday, August 30, 2013 at 12:00 p.m.

The hearing was taped for reference and the Commissioners adjourned the public hearing at 6:40 p.m.
