Ron Hansen is the author of eight novels, two collections of stories, and a book of essays. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha and went on to the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop and Stanford University. His novel Atticus was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. His novel The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was also a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and was made into a movie starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck.

Sally is very creative. No two shows are alike. She paints very decoratively and uses mixed media as well as doing very creative painted furniture and paper mache' sculpture. Her show will hang through Dec. 30, 2012
The annual Judged Photography Show represents the best work of Arts League members and will have cash prizes awarded for the best art. The show opens on First Friday, November 2 with a reception at the Arts League from 5-8pm.

The Chestertown Book Festival begins at 7pm Friday evening, Nov. 2, with a keynote talk by Adam Goodheart, author of "1861, The Civil War Awakening" at Hynson Lounge, Washington College. The festival runs Saturday, Nov 3, from 10am - 4pm at Emmanuel Church Hall, downtown Chestertown, with over 35 authors, publishers, illustrators, and a featured talk by Pulitzer winner Richard Ben Cramer, at 1pm. Anna Solomon is the author of the novel, The Little Bride. Her short stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, One Story, Harvard Review, The Georgia Review, and elsewhere, and have twice been awarded the Pushcart Prize.
Clare Burson's latest album, Silver and Ash, is a concept album that explores Burson's maternal grandmother's life in Germany, from her birth in 1919 to her escape in 1938, as well as Burson's own struggles with rupture, silence, guilt, empathy, and continuity.

Dr. Robert Selig will be at the Rock Hall Town Center to talk about the Tench Tilghman ride to Congress in Philadelphia to take the news of the Yorktown victory to them. Tilghman sailed up the Bay, came to the ES at Rock Hall, got a horse, rode to his father's home (near Chestertown) and slept there for the night. He then left for Elkton, and on and Dr. Selig will tell the entire story as well as the story of getting the French troops (Rochambeau) to Yorktown through Maryland. He is one of the most compelling, fascinating speakers on early America. Once you have heard him speak you will never see the Revolutionary War, nor 1812, in the same way again!
Rock Hall is a great place to be on any Saturday night, but never like this!
Margaret Mills Harper is Glucksman Professor of Contemporary Writing in English at the University of Limerick. She specializes in Irish literature, literary modernisms, and poetry of the long twentieth century.

The Kent County Marching band will welcome Santa as he arrives via firetruck to Fountain Park, playing from 6:45 to 7pm.
Santa will throw candy (supplied by DCA) from truck as he arrives. He will then see children in his house until 9 pm. Boy Scouts will take pictures & sell cider, hot chocolate & coffee; Girl Scouts will give away cookies.
Andy has asked several groups if they are interested in caroling that evening. No one has committed thus far.
The Chester River Chorale, joined by a small chamber orchestra and the PCC Handbell Choir, presents a Holiday Concert including works by two Maryland composers and a newly commissioned setting of the African-American spiritual, Follow That Star, by Robert L. Jefferson, and the Jewish Shabbat song, Shalom Aleichem, by Sholom Kalib. The concert will also feature a new Christmas carol medley by John Curtis Browning, based on the short works of contemporary American composer, Alfred Burt.
