  • Charles Sumner Post #25, Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Exhibits and presentations celebrating the 150th anniversary of Maryland Emancipation Day. Even though Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation issued on January 1, 1863 proclaimed freedom to slaves in the 10 states in rebellion, it did not apply to Maryland as one of four slave states which had not rebelled. In April 1864, delegates drafted Maryland’s 3rd Constitution containing its own Emancipation Proclamation, which passed by 400 votes and was ratified October 13, 1864. It took effect November 1, 1864.

  • The Pam Ortiz Band known for their fine musicianship and performance of songs written by Pam Ortiz will present an evening of songs of sailing, water, and ships.   • In keeping with the Halloween season, the Eastern Shore Wind Ensemble will present a program of music with themes of suspense, mysteriousness, and horror. Directed by Dr. Keith Wharton, the ESWE is the all-ages community concert band based in Chestertown. It gives four concerts during its Sept.-May season and welcomes new members at any time, without audition or fee. The next concert will be a holiday concert on Dec. 14. The band is partially supported by the Kent Co. Arts Council.

  • The story of the Monuments Men is only part of a much larger story. In 2013, at the urging of a historian, Baltimore resident Susan Fisher Sullam uncovered hundreds of pages of top secret & classified files that had belonged to her late father detailing the final, harrowing months of WW II. As a member of General Eisenhower's staff, Joel Fisher had kept the memos & papers detailing one of the greatest treasure hunts in history.His documents chronicle how Americans located & secured billions of dollars' worth of gold, silver and currency plundered by the Nazis from the treasuries of occupied Europe. It was a story he never shared with his daughter & one that she discovered in her basement 16 years after his death.
