  • Searing blues and pounding boogie woogie from Daryl Davis and his band. Daryl Davis is a vocalist, guitarist, composer, and a keyboardist extraordinaire. Born in Chicago, electric blues capital of the world, he received a Bachelors in Music from Howard University and then went to work with artists such as Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis to Percy Sledge.   • Singer/songwriter Beth McDonald and pianist Joe Holt recall the classic, sophisticated vocal and piano jazz that Peggy Lee and George Shearing made in the mid-20th century. Lee had a six decade career as a vocalist and composer. Shearingís nimble, witty jazz piano style had a broad influence on American jazz and popular music. He takes some of Beethoven's most famous works, clothing them in clever arrangements and utilizing them as vehicles for personal improvisation while treating them with respect.   • Located 8.5 miles south of Chestertown the one-room schoolhouse opened in 1878 to children of a farming and watermen's community. Visitors can see the potbellied stove, lessons on the blackboards for the seven grades taught there, schoolbooks and other artifacts of that era. Closing in 1939 it remains in its original configuration. No admission fee.

  • In the last 400 years, the Chesapeake Bay has weathered its share of legendary hurricanes, gales, fogs and freezes, from the first squall encountered by Captain John Smith in 1608 to the Great Eastern Blizzard of 1899 to tropical Storm Agnes in 1972. On Saturday, October 26, 2013, author David Healey will present a talk chronicling the human stories behind the region's most remarkable weather history. Copies of Mr. Healey's book "Great Storms of the Chesapeake" will be available for purchase. The talk will be followed by a book signing and light refreshments will be provided.
