Kent County Boards and CommitteesProposed Regional Correctional Facility Site Selection Commitee County Commissioners of KENT County Seek Volunteer Members To Serve On A Site Selection Committee For a Potential Regional Correctional Facility
The County Commissioners of Caroline, Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties have agreed to explore the concept of a regional correctional facility to provide correctional services and facilities for the Counties in a cost efficient manner. Therefore, the Counties have authorized the Upper Shore Regional Corrections Project, a study which seeks to create a regional corrections authority, which would operate and maintain a unified multi-county agency designed to better utilize resources in the region. Similar operations currently exist in other States. As part of this evaluation process, a feasibility study was completed by a consulting firm selected by the participating county governments in 2006 and it was recommended that the project move forward. In order for this process to continue, a site for the proposed regional detention center must be identified.
The Kent County Commissioners are accepting expressions of interest in membership on a site selection committee for a potential regional correctional facility or a stand-alone local correctional facility. The Commissioners are seeking a diverse group of individuals to serve on this citizen-driven board, who will serve approximately 4-6 months and perform a detailed site work analysis, and identify three prospective sites for a potential regional jail. The committee will begin meeting in May 2008. The Counties will establish a site selection committee in each county, to identify, study and recommend to the counties’ governing bodies potential sites for a regional correctional facility.
Candidates should send a brief letter describing why they would like to be a committee member, accompanied by a resume or profile, to: The County Commissioners’ Office, 400 High Street, Chestertown, MD 21620. For more information, please contact the County Commissioners’ Office at 410-778-4600 or via email at kentcounty@kentgov.org. All responses must be received by 4:00 p.m., on April 11, 2008.
