The Heritage Advisory Committee was created to obtain eligibility for Maryland Historical Trust Heritage Preservation Grants Program.

  • The Heritage Advisory Committee is to consist of at least five members, all of whom have specific knowledge, training, or a demonstrated interest in heritage preservation. One member must be a local elected official. The primary task of the advisory committee is to formulate a survey and evaluation plan.

  • The Heritage Preservation Liaison must be an employee of county government. The liaison must dedicate 10 hours per week to preservation activities including answering questions from the public.

  • The Committee is to actively work to complete a Heritage Resource Survey and Evaluation Plan. This plan must:

-Identify the principal known or expected heritage themes or contexts for the county according to Preservation Vision 2000: The Maryland Plan

-Summarize past survey and evaluation efforts for each type resource.

-Identify known gaps or outdated information in existing survey and evaluation materials for each type resource.

-Identify known threats for each resource type.

-Summarize the goals and objectives for the survey and evaluation work anticipated to be completed at the end of five years (five years is preferable but not mandatory).

-List survey and evaluation activities to be undertaken, by year, for the period covered by the plan.
