Originated October 10, 1972, under Code Home Rule Bill #2-72.

5 year terms after original board

Effective July 1, 1978, Chairman will receive $30.00 per meeting and members will receive $25.00 per meeting for reimbursement of expenses (see Code Home Rule Bill #5-77).

The Kent County Public Drainage Association is hereby created. It shall have five (5) members appointed by the County Commissioners to serve for one (1), two (2), three (3), four (4) and five (5) years on the original appointment and, for each subsequent appointment, for a five-year term or until their successors are appointed and have taken their positions. The Board of County Commissioners of Kent County, Maryland, shall designate one (1) of its members to be an ex officio member of the Association . From time to time, the members of the Association shall select their Chairman. Vacancies among the appointive members shall be filled by the County Commissioners for the unexpired terms. Any person may be reappointed to the Association shall be residents, property owners and registered voters of Kent County.

A quorum of the Association shall be any three (3) members thereof.

It shall be the duty of the Association to recommend to the Board of County Commissioners of Kent County the location or locations to establish ditches, drains or canals and to cause to be constructed, straightened, widened or deepened any ditch, drain or watercourse for the purpose of draining wet, swampy or overflowed lands or lands subject to overflow and to assist the Board of County Commissioners of Kent County in performing its duties as set forth under Article 25, § 52 et seq., of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition) pertaining to draining lands.
