Ms. Jean Austin, Chair
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Kent County Extension Office
Jean Austin has more than 20 years communications and teaching experience in business and community settings. As a Family and Consumer Science educator for Maryland Cooperative Extension, she teaches family finance, and nutrition and human development. Jean's Extension experience includes national and regional presentations in family caregiving and clutter management. She has worked in the insurance and finanacial services industry, the aging network and in anti-hunger and nutrition education. She has a B.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in English Literature and received a M.S. in Human Nutrition from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 1998. She lives in Rock Hall, Maryland and enjoys many of the pleasures of life on the Eastern Shore.
In Jean's spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading and she is currently learning how to quilt.
Ms. Kerry Ahearn-Brown, Vice Chair
PUBLIC AGENCY REPRESENTATIVE
Director, Department of Social Services
Kerry Ahearn-Brown is the Director of Kent County Deparment of Social Servivces.
Ms. Brown also serves on the Boards of MD Associaiton of Social Services, the Samaritan Group and Upper Shore Workforce Investment Colloborative.
Kerry feels that a strength of Kent County is that it's small and the community is very close.
Kerry enjoys jogging and just "hanging out with family".
Elder Leon Frison, Secretary/Treasurer
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Teacher, Chestertown Middle School
Elder Leon Frison is the pastor of the Living Water Greater
Highway Church of Christ, a Kent County Public School teacher and the
chaplain for the Kent County Detention Center. He has been recognized
for his service to the community by the Kent County News, the Chester
Valley Ministers Association, Kent County Public Schools and the Maryland
State Department of Education. His goal is: "to positively affect
the lives of youth and families in this community."

Ms. Tricia Biles
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Tricia lives in Still Pond with her husband, Nick, and their two children, Finneas Jack and Madeleine.
She has lived and worked in the county since 1996. She is currently employed as the Education Coordinator at Echo Hill Outdoor School. She has been a community member of the LMB since Fall 2007. Tricia feels that it is very important to expand programs and services that are available for youth in Kent County.
Tricia serves as President on the PTA for Worton Elementary School.
Tricia enjoys kayaking, spending time with her family and cycling. The natural beauty and waterways are some strengths of living in Kent County.
Ms. Myra Butler

Acting Director, Kent County Parks and Recreation
Myra Butler has worked for Kent County Parks & Recreation for 15 1/2 years, and has recently assumed the position of Acting Director.
Ms. Butler has been a resident of Kent County for 36 years and enjoys living here. A strength Ms. Butler feels living in Kent County is the support of the residents in the community. The residents are close and always there to lend a hand. Ms. Bulter enjoys Zumba, and reading books and articles on African American history and personal growth in her spare time.
Ms. Butler is very committed to developing positive youth development in the youth and children that live here in Kent County.
Ms. Chelsie Crouch
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Student, Kent County High School
Chelsie was born and raised in Kent County. She lives in Rock Hall with her parents. She feels a strength of living in Kent County, is that if you ever need help, there is always someone around willing to help.
Chelsie will be entering her senior year at Kent County High School in the Fall. She is currently employed with Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Chelsie enjoys fishing, crabbing, swimming and spending time with her family and friends.
Chelsie feels "the LMB is an opportunity for people to learn things about their community and help it be the best it can be".
Ms. Candy Edwards

As a Kent County native, and the parent of a child with a learning disability, I am keenly aware of the needs, strengths and barriers for children and families in our community. Having served as an active LMB Board member over the past few years, I welcome the challenging opportunity to bring my experience and dedication to community service to the next level.

Mr. Matthew Hash
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Student, Kent County High School
Matt was born and raised in Kent County. He currently lives in Worton, Maryland.
Matt is employed with Kent County Parks and Recreation as a Day Camp Counselor this summer and will be entering his senior year at Kent County High School in the Fall 2008. Matt would like to go to college and receive a degree in architecture.
Besides the LMB Board, Matt serves on the Board Development Committee.
An asset of living in Kent County is that everyone knows each other.
Ms. Shakeara Jones
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Student, Kent County High School
Shakeara is an 11th grade student that attends Kent County High School. Ms. Jones likes to participate in Teen Court.
Shakeara feels a strength Kent County has to offer its youth is sports and/or other activities at Kent County Parks and Recreation. Shakeara loves to play sports, talk on the phone/text her friends, and she enjoys helping others.

Bill has worked and lived in Kent County for two years. He works for Kent County Department of Planning, Housing and Zoning.
He enjoys reading, golfing and walking.

Mr. Joe Newell
PUBLIC AGENCY REPRESENTATIVE

Mid-Shore Mental Health Systems, Inc.
Joe Newell has a long work history involving service to non-profit companies and civic organizations. He has served as Director of Finance at Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care (DFMC) and Chief Financial Officer for Mid-Shore Mental Health Systems (MSMHS). Now serving as Executive Director of MSMHS, Joe is also Chair of the Audit Committee of DFMC and sits on numerous other Boards, including the Maryland Association of Non-Profits.
A life-long Shore resident, Joe now has homes in both Bethlehem, MD and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He belongs to a number of civic organizations, including the Easton Elks Lodge where he served as Trustee and Chairman of the Trustees from 2004 to 2006.
Joe holds Bachelors degrees in both Finance and English from St. Andrews College in North Carolina. He completed a Master of Business Administration degree in October 2007.
Sheriff John Price

Kent County Sheriff
John F. Price is the elected Sheriff of Kent County, Maryland and serves as a Board Member representing Law Enforcement. As a (29) twenty-nine year veteran of Law Enforcement, Sheriff Price shares a vision and is committed to assuring that Kent County youth receive services that provide for the sound development of strong family values free of substance abuse. Maintaining appropriate funding for resources and programs that promote positive outcomes for Kent County families is essential for our success.
Mr. William Short
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE
Business Owner
Bill was born and raised in Kent County, Maryland. He and his wife, Donna, own and operate Creative Treatments, Inc., which carry high quality window treatments and accessories.
Bill also serves on the Shrewbury Church Vestry and is also the Cemetary Warden.
Bill enjoys living in Kent County because it's quiet. In his spare time, Bill enjoys hunting, coaching baseball, and doing work on his farm.
Dr. A. Barbara Wheeler

Superintendent, Kent County Public Schools
Dr. Wheeler was recently hired as the Superintendant of Kent County Public Schools.
Dr. Wheeler also sits on the Board for Boy Scouts of America.
She feels a strength of being in Kent County is that it's small and rural.
Dr. Wheeler enjoys reading and exercising in her spare time.
