Attended:  Leon Frison, Chair; Bill Clark, Vice Chair; Jean Austin, Anna Baker, Nora Becker, Kerry Ahearn-Brown, Chelsie Crouch, Amy Crowding, Ron Fithian, Bill Kerbin, Pam Kuster, Joe Newell, Matthew Hash, Rev. Welcome and Introductions

Approval of Board meeting minutes – Board members reviewed meeting minutes from the April 17, 2008 Board meeting. Leon Frison asked for a motion to approve the minutes. Jean Austin motioned and Linda Wilson seconded.  Motion approved.

Program Committee – The second quarter Community Enrichment Grants were received and reviewed.  There were 12 programs who submitted proposals totaling over $57,000.00. After reviewing the proposals, the Program Committee recommends awarding $18,054.06.   Upon approval by the Board, the recommendation will be sent to GOC for approval.

Finance & Board Development Committee – Neither of these committees met, however, the Board Development Committee reviewed term limits that were to expire as well as nominating officers at the next Board meeting.  William Short was recommended to serve as the new Community Member representative as well as Kreigh Kirby who was recommended as a Student Member.  There remains one vacancy for a student member.  Kerry Ahearn-Brown made a motion and Linda Wilson seconded motion.  Motion approved by all. Recommendations will be submitted to the Commissioners for approval and appointment.

Director’s Report:

  • CPA – The Vendor’s contracts will close out June 30th. We will be meeting with our vendors to go over their reductions for their FY09 contracts.

  • We are planning to use unspent funds for FY08 to hire an Adolescent Substance Abuse Counselor for Kent County Behavioral Health.

  • ASAC Marketing Plan – Loblolly Productions has finalized ASAC’s logo and is finishing up their website, www.kentasac.org. Loblolly has also produced ASAC’s first brochure.

  • Y2Y – Post Prom was a huge success! There was one female member of the Y2Y that was removed from the program due to underage drinking.

  • Volunteer Maryland Coordinator – Volunteer Maryland met with Candy Edwards to go over their program. The Volunteer Maryland Coordinator will do community training and recruitment to revive the developmental assets momentum. The Board approved to pay the stipend, up to $7,300.00. The proposal is for 1 year with a start date of September 17th, 2008.

  • Shore Pals – This is an organization through Salisbury University that serves the at-risk students to help them develop life skills. It was recommended that the LMB send out an advertisement to have a trainer from Americorp Volunteer come in to recruit these students. Amy Crowding moved a motion that the LMB would pay for the trainer. Reverend Purnell seconded the motion. Recommendation approved by all.

  • Earned Reinvestment – It was recommended that the LMB would send out an advertisement to bring someone in to train the vendors on how to apply for the Community Enrichment Grants. Nora Becker moved the motion to pay for the trainer and Anna Baker seconded motion. Recommendation approved by all.

  • Rehab Option Dollars – GOC approved a regional initiative. An RFP will be going out to solicit a vendor.

  • Needs Assessment with Salisbury University – The University will be finishing up the Needs Assessment packets any day. We will receive 10 official copies to keep in the LMB Resource Library.

  • May 23, 2008 – Sibshops, Siblings with Special Needs, Ages 7-11 years old, 9 am – 2 pm

  • June 28, 2008 – Sibshops, Siblings with Special Needs, Ages 12-15 years old, 9 am – 2 pm

  • June 10 – June 13, 2008 – Social Skills @ Kent Co. Library – For ages 12-15 years old. 9 am – 12 pm.

  • June 16 – June 20, 2008 – Social Skills @ Kent Co. Library – For ages 6-8 years old. 9 am – 11:30 am.

  • June 23 – June 27, 2008 – Social Skills @ Kent Co. Library – For ages 9-11 years old. 9 am – 11:30 am.

  • June 25, 2008 – Psychological First Aid Training @ Kent County Health Department. Registration starts @ 8:30 am.

  • June 26, 2008 – Gang Prevention training through Kent County Behavioral Health

  • July 8, 2008 – Family Center Practice training provided by Kent County DSS

Bill Clark made a motion to adjourn meeting @ 6 pm and Anna Baker seconded. Motion approved by all.

Next Meeting: The next Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 19th @ 4 pm.
