    (Merriam-Webster)

What gives you pleasure? A glass of Chateau Lafite Rothschild? A garden of peonies? A silky scarf? Perhaps a plate of Fig Newtons and a glass of milk.

  • Twin brothers Joe and Paul Midiri met Joe Holt in 1974, in high school, and formed their first working group, "A Couple of Joe's
Trio" (modeled after the iconic Benny Goodman trio of the swing era). They all continued to pursue independent careers as professional musicians, but remained connected along the way. Joe Holt is certainly no stranger to our audiences as jazz pianist, accompanist, and impresario of the Mainstay’s First Friday collaborations. The Midiri Brothers have been evangelists on behalf of New Orleans jazz, swing and big band and small group formats.

Ray Hughes and Sian Chandler have the ability to write songs that summon both modern and timeless inspirations. Americana, Folk, and Acoustic Indie Rock sensibilities comfortably coexist with traditional airs, with Hughes’ guitar work buoying the kind of seamless, harmonies most vocalists aspire to but rarely achieve. • Why is it usually surprising when a friend, a neighbor, steps in front of a microphone on a local stage, starts to sing, and something spellbinding comes out? Local singer/songwriter Barbara Parker has such a gift. Her strong, just-right voice and heartfelt original songs instantly bring us elsewhere as few vocalists can. Her musical palette pays tribute to the grand folk dames of classic coffeehouses, snippets of old time country, blues, and even an occasional rock ballad; And she does so with a humility that makes us feel grateful to be welcomed in.
