Everyone knows the potential benefits of Social Media for businesses in the Tourism industry, but getting started with your own Social Media can be difficult and confusing. Where do you start? And what do you say? Or post? Or tweet? Or tag? And what do those words mean? Kent County Tourism wants to help. If you are looking for a way to get a better understanding of how to get started, or how to make Social Media work for you, this workshop is for you.


Workshop Registration

Participants have the opportunity to attend the entire workshop or to register only for the portions of the training which are most relevant to their needs. Please review the session descriptions below to learn more about the workshop offerings and to determine which sessions may be most appropriate for you. Participants should arrive fifteen minutes prior to their first scheduled session to check in. Space in each session is limited and early registration is encouraged.

Session Descriptions

Social Media 101



This course will provide a basic introduction to three social networking platforms: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Attendees will become familiar with the similarities and differences between these platforms,   terminology associated with social networking and basic do’s and don’ts for the management of their own accounts.

Panel Presentation



Representatives from various tourism related industries will be on hand to share their social media experiences, to discuss the impact it has had on their businesses and to answer attendee questions. Information about the panelists will be available on the Eventbrite registration page ( the event nears.

Launch Class: Setting Up Your Own Social Platforms



Participants in the Launch class will be able to set up their Facebook,   Twitter and Instagram accounts with the support of the Kent County Tourism team. Please be sure to bring a WiFi enabled device (Laptop or tablet). In addition, please save your company logo and 2-5 images you would like to share on any of these platforms on your device. Also, please note that Instagram is designed to be used with a mobile device or tablet.


Workshop Panelists

CatrinaJeffersonCatrina Jefferson, True North

Catrina Jefferson is the owner of True North Marketing and a co-founder of Gals That Give Charity. She has over ten years of marketing and communications experience in the digital marketing, real estate, and non-profit industries. As the owner of True North Marketing, she helps organizations design and implement consistent and creative communication strategies that reach their target audience and uniquely position their brand in the marketplace. At Gals That Give Charity Catrina directs communication efforts related to social media, email marketing, public relations and event planning. Gals That Give Charity #dogood events and outreach strategy aspires to raise funds and create awareness for hosted non-profits and their programs. Gals That Give Charity efforts have raised over $160,000 for Delaware non-profits since 2013. Event attendance ranges between 175 and 275 women per month. The event and brand continue to grow exponentially through digital marketing.

LucyChittendonLucy Chittendon, Maryland Division of Tourism

Lucy leads a team in the division of Tourism, Film and the Arts (TFA) focusing on Interactive Services, Web Marketing and Research for Tourism Development. Lucy began her career in Interactive Marketing in 1999 and joined TFA in 2007. She holds a bachelor of fine arts from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA.)

CarolineJudgeCaroline Judge of SoDel Restaurants

Caroline was raised in the Coastal Delaware area and attended school in the Cape District. She is a recent graduate of Northeastern University where she majored in Marketing and was a two time MVP of the Northeastern Women’s Field Hockey Team.

Caroline moved home upon graduation and started working for SoDel Concepts, both in a SoDel restaurant and in the office working in social media. She was promoted to Social Media Specialist in the fall of 2016 and now oversees the social media operations of all 10 SoDel Restaurants and the SoDel brand.

JanelleMileyJanelle Miley, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

Janelle Miley, Social Content Producer for Dogfish Head Craft Brewery located in Milton, Delaware. Where they make off-centered ales for off-centered people… Dogfish also has an inn, two restaurants and recently expanded their spirits line. Busy, busy!

Janelle is a graduate of West Virginia University, and started as an intern at Dogfish Head in 2011. She left for a few short months to finish up her degree and has been there ever since!
