Agricultural Land Preservation

We all have an interest in agricultural land preservation to help preserve the rural nature of our county and to retain this important section of our economic well being. A number of programs address this need:

At the end of 2005, Kent County had 8,600 acres enrolled in 45 MALPF Districts and had permanently protected 11,500 acres in 62 MALPF Easements. Five easements covering 1,285 acres have been purchased in the Sassafras Rural Legacy Area, and over 8,000 acres have been protected throught donated easements to the Maryland Environmental Trust and Eastern Shore Land Conservancy. Another 3,300 acres have been preserved by the Conservation Fund and American Farmland Trust through the donation of the Chesapeake Farms property.
