The class will be held at the Clay Studio on Mondays at 2:00 - 4:00 pm, running from February 5 - 26, 2024 (4 weeks).

This class aims is for active Clay Studio potters to develop a basic understanding of:
ceramic glazes and their chemistry, properties, and functional application
how glazing techniques effect outcomes
glaze formulas and performance
layering and fading color
creating and controlling slides
resists, tapes, and masking
introduction to the spray booth

The Washington College Concert Series presents violinist, David Kim and pianist, Woobin Park. David Kim, Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra, began the violin at the age of three and, at the age of eight, studied with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay. Dr. Woobin Park made her Carnegie Hall debut to critical acclaim, in which New York Concert Review raved “Park gave a brilliant performance, handling the virtuosity with a beautiful sense of style.”

Individual tickets $20 (adults) and $15 (non-WC College Students / Seniors 65 and over / WC Faculty and Staff). Youth 18 and under free.

Come join us as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Beatles first visit to America (and their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show)! Relive the moment as we present The Beatles segment of February 9, 1964 from The Sullivan Show on the Big Screen. Then, enjoy a Sing-a-Long style show of your Beatles favorites featuring performances by The Mainstay Community Players. Our bar will be open as per usual and we hope to see some fashion reminiscent of this classic musical era. It all starts in the Mainstay Tap Room where you’ll get to browse and purchase a selection of Beatles posters and records.

Join Cindy for a 6-week series of Studio sessions Feb. 7-Mar.13, 2024

Location: RA Classroom, 315 High Street

Cindy is an experienced teacher who has been teaching Open Studio at different venues for 20 years. Before that she was a teacher of Advanced Placement art. She developed curriculum at the American School The Hague and is experienced in all media. Come and learn some new tricks or share tricks with some of the other students. It is guaranteed to be a fun and inspiring atmosphere.

Kicking off the 2024 season is the over-the-top, hilarious musical comedy “LUCKY STIFF.” With Book and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Music by Stephen Flaherty, the show is based on the novel “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo,” by Michael Butterworth. This was the first professionally-produced musical collaboration between Ahrens and Flaherty, who went on to create “Ragtime,” “Once on this Island,” and “Seussical,” along with stage musical adaptations of “My Favorite Year” and “Anastasia.” “Lucky Stiff” will be directed by the GCA’s Executive Director Steven Arnold.

The start of a new concert year at The Mainstay is a big deal. What better way to usher in a new season than with the annual celebration of one of The Mainstay's most popular performers -- Deanna Bogart. Deanna and her band return to the East Coast with her spectacular combination of boogie-woogie and rocking contemporary blues, whipped into a splendid blend she calls “blusion.” In defining it, she says, "...it all grows out of the blues... it just doesn't always end there..."

Whether you are submitting your artwork for a show, documenting it for your online portfolio, or selling
in your online shop, it is crucial to have good photos showcasing your artwork! In this session, photographer and artist Kris Kelley will teach you how to position, light, and photograph your work to capture every beautiful detail, using your smartphone and items found around your home. Documenting both 2d and 3d work, including glass artwork, is covered.

Novelist and screenwriter Eugene Cross-Garcia screens clips and talks about writing an ABC single-camera sitcom, then will field questions from the audience. Part of the Sophie Kerr and Literary House Screenwriters' Series.

Eugene Garcia-Cross was born in Pennsylvania and received an MFA in fiction from the University of Pittsburgh. The author of the story collection Fires of Our Choosing, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons. As a TV writer, Eugene has written for NBC, the Disney Channel, and NBC’s Peacock streaming service.

The class will be held at the Clay Studio on Tuesdays at 6:00 - 8:30 pm, running from February 20-March 26, 2024 (6 weeks).

It is intended to be a "next step" for returning beginners, but can easily accommodate new students who like a challenge!

Students will expand and refine their skillset through skills instruction and weekly project assignment. The Class setting provides great opportunity to move beyond the basic techniques and deepen your experience with wheel-thrown clay.

The class will be held at the Clay Studio on Wednesdays at 6:00 - 8:30 pm, running from February 21-March 27, 2024 (6 weeks).

This course introduces basic pottery wheel techniques to beginning students with a focus on throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Students will be shown the step-by-step process of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing clay into finished pieces. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.

As a boy in Genoa, Italy, Beppe Gambetta somehow acquired records by the legendary American flatpicker Doc Watson -- a discovery that changed his life. His annual visits to the United Sates have since earned him the reputation as one of the master innovators of the acoustic guitar, both as a bluegrass player, but also as a "virtual United Nations of influences: Italian, Ukrainian, Appalachian, Celtic". He has been described by The Huffington Post as one of the "best flatpickers anywhere," and Bluegrass Unlimited magazine calls him "one of, if not the best, acoustic guitarists in the world."

The Washington College Department of Theatre and Dance presents True West by Sam Shepard; directed by Professor Dale Daigle.

True West follows the sibling rivalry between recently reconnected estranged brothers, Austin and Lee.
