KENT COUNTY, MARYLAND

The Honorable Board of License Commissioners met today with the following present: Larry B. Beck, W. Michael Newnam, and Ronald H. Fithian, presiding.

Mauritz Stetson, Alcoholic Beverage Inspector, appeared to discuss the following issues:

SPECIAL LICENSE

The Commissioners approved the following special licenses:

A one day only Class C Beer, Wine and Liquor license for St. Dennis Church for a fund raising event on July 27 at St. Dennis Church, Galena.

A one day only Class C Beer license for the Betterton Day Celebration on August 3 at Betterton Beach, Betterton.

THE ALEXANDER CAFE

A public hearing was held at 9:45 a.m. on the application received from Zebulon J. Brodie, President, etal , representing EAT, Inc., for a Class B Beer, Wine and Liquor License. Mr. Brodie and the new restaurant manager, Howard Johnson, were in attendance.

Commissioner Fithian read the notice of public hearing into the record.

Mr. Stetson advised that he has inspected the premises and the interior has been redecorated.

Commissioner Beck inquired as to hours of operation. Mr. Johnson reported that the restaurant would be servicing lunch and dinner and would operate 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and remain open until 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

There was no one in attendance who wished to speak for or against this application.

A motion was made by Commissioner Newnam, seconded by Commissioner Beck and made unanimous by Commissioner Fithian to approve the license; a certified accountant's statement will be required to be submitted in six months. The Commissioners wished Mr. Brodie well with his new business endeavor.

This hearing was not taped due to a tape recorder malfunction. The hearing adjourned at 9:55 a.m.

WINE TASTING

In follow-up from July 2, the Commissioners established a policy whereby a Class 4

Winery can bring alcoholic beverage products onto a retailed license premise for bonafide promotional events, is subject to restrictions in the law and any licensee planning a wine tasting event is to provide the Commissioner's Office with two weeks notice. Mr. Stetson reported that every licensee would receive correspondence explaining wine tasting regulations.

There being no further business to claim their attention, the Board adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, July 23, 2002.
