PUBLIC HEARING
HISTORIC SITE DESIGNATION

A public hearing was held today at 6:02 p.m. in the County Commissioners’ Hearing Room, County Government Center, 400 High Street, Chestertown, MD, for the purpose of discussing the application made by John and Elionora Silbersack, to voluntarily designate property located at 8046 Quaker Neck Road, Chestertown, MD, as a Local Historic Site and to list the site in the Kent County Register of Historic Places.

County Commissioners, William W. Pickrum, Ronald H. Fithian and William A. Short were in attendance.

Shelley L. Heller, County Administrator, was also in attendance.

Commissioner Pickrum read the notice of public hearing into record. The rules for public hearings are in effect. Written comments will be accepted until Friday, December 16, 2016, at 12:00 p.m.

Commissioner Pickrum invited comments and questions from the audience.

Cherylin Widdell, Consultant, Widdell Preservation Services, spoke in support of the applicants.

Amy Moredock, Director, Planning, Housing, and Zoning, gave a brief overview of the importance of the historic property. The Historic Preservation Commission and the Kent County Planning Commission found that the property at 8046 Quaker Neck Road met the criteria for nomination and gave favorable recommendation for the designation of the property as a Historic Site.

On motion by Commissioner Short and seconded by Commissioner Fithian, the Commissioners unanimously approved the designation of the property located at 8046 Quaker Neck Road, Chestertown, MD as a Historic Site.

The hearing was taped for reference and the Commissioners adjourned the public hearing at 6:07 p.m.
