August 1 Beginner Wheel with Chris Neiman

The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Tuesdays, running from August 1st through September 5th. (6 weeks)
This course introduces basic pottery wheel techniques to beginning students with a focus on throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Students will be shown the step-by-step process of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing clay into finished pieces. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.
Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay.

The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from August 2nd through September 6th. (6 weeks) It is intended to be a "next step" for returning beginners, but can easily accommodate new students who like a challenge!
Students will expand and refine their skillset through skills instruction and weekly project assignment. The Class setting provides great opportunity to move beyond the basic techniques and deepen your experience with wheel-thrown clay.
Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay and six Open Studio tickets.

The art of the white-line woodcut produces full-color prints from a single carved woodblock. Participants will learn how to transfer a drawing to a woodblock, carve the key outlines, paint the block and finally transfer the image to the printing paper. Attendees only need some basic skills in drawing and watercolors. No previous knowledge of wood-block printing or woodcarving is necessary.

Come and carve a design and make a small batch of relief prints while we have a conversation about different types and styles of printmaking. Our conversations will be more hands on than usual as we will be interacting directly with different materials used to create a relief print. We will talk about different types of ink and the different ways a relief print is actually printed as it relates to our particular capabilities. We will also talk about many of the different and beautifully unique paper choices there are out there. All materials will be provided.

In this class you will learn basic flower pressing techniques, theories, and helpful hints to turn your flowers and other loved botanicals into lasting and beautiful memorabilia. As a fun bonus project we will be making a small pressed flower home décor creation using already pressed flowers.
