Karen Merkin joined The Artists' Gallery as a new exhibitor in 2017. She is fascinated with the use of color, and the subtlety of light and shadow on those colors. She is inspired by the photo realistic work Richard Estes, which lead the viewer to question whether it is a photograph or a painting.

The RiverArts Film Society will host a public event built around sharing skills on how to watch a movie like film critics do. Following two professional film critic strategies—cultural impact and aesthetic construction—event attendees will have the opportunity to test their own critical muscles while learning new skills along the way.
The event will be led by Professor Alicia Kozma of Washington College. Professor Kozma will share tactics used by professional film critics to evaluate film while facilitating a conversation about why we watch movies, how we watch them, and what it means to be able to critically access film.
The event will be held on July 29, 3:00- 5:00 PM at the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. The event is open to Film Society members and non-members alike. Admission Fee $10 – includes light hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will be available.
