  • Jazz-based Joe Holt’s guest in June is Nate Grower, fiddle player for performing artist superstar David Bromberg. Expect an interesting exchange of genres.
    During Nate's tenure with Bromberg’s band, he has toured throughout the United States, Australia and Japan. In the process, he's played with a steady stream of musical guests, including the late Allen Toussaint, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, John Oates (of Hall and Oates), Sam Bush, Keb Mo and Arlo Guthrie.

  • Get ready to dive into an exciting world of mosaic making while creating a beautiful flower! In this class students will explore mosaic making techniques including image selection, stylization, safe and precise stained glass cutting and nipping techniques, creating shading and tone, what adhesives and substrates are suitable for mosaic making, how to choose an appropriate grout for the piece and grout the mosaic.

    In addition to the class fee a materials fee of $70 to be paid directly to the instructor.

  • Americana duo The Honey Dewdrops’ sound respects their roots in the mountains of Virginia and their current home in Baltimore. Their harmony-soaked songs feature Laura Wortman’s big voice and banjo playing, and the nimble guitar licks of Kagey Parrish. Generally appearing as a duo, their Mainstay show invites two more instruments into their mix.

  • Join us as we explore this fascinating intersection between text and visual art! In this workshop, instructor Lindsay Lusby will guide you through some of the techniques that innovative contemporary poets like Matthea Harvey and Sarah J. Sloat use to experiment and construct their captivating visual poems. We’ll talk about where the hybrid form of visual poetry fits among the sister artforms of zine-making, multimedia collage, blackout poetry, and found poetry. And of course, we’ll make our own visual poems to take home! This workshop is open to adults and teens.

    This course introduces basic pottery wheel techniques to beginning students with a focus on throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Students will be shown the step-by-step process of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing clay into finished pieces. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.

  • The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from June 14th through July 20th. (6 weeks) It is intended to be a "next step" for returning beginners, but can easily accommodate new students who like a challenge!

    Students will expand and refine their skillset through skills instruction and weekly project assignment. The Class setting provides great opportunity to move beyond the basic techniques and deepen your experience with wheel-thrown clay.

    Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay and six Open Studio tickets.

  • Recalling the jazz guitar sounds of George Benson and Wes Montgomery, Baltimore’s Ronny Smith and his band’s jive/funk sound straddles the fine line between traditional and contemporary smooth jazz, blues and gospel.
