  • The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from October 12th through November 16th. (6 weeks)

    This 6 week course is intended to be a "next step" for returning beginners. Students will expand and refine their skillset through skills instruction and weekly project assignment. It is a great opportunity to move beyond the basic techniques and deepen your experience with wheel-thrown clay.

    Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay (Standard Brown 112) and six Open Studio tickets.

  • Marc’s annual exhibition has become synonymous with Sultana’s Downrigging Festival. Now in its 22nd year, the Sultana Education Foundation’s Downrigging Weekend Festival is one of the largest annual tall ship gatherings in North America.

  • Radiant Material exhibiting artist, Tommy Bobo will offer a talk about his work. Bobo makes art primarily with lights and computers, but also enjoys watercolors, writing, and video. Bobo says about the works in the Radiant Material exhibition, “For years I have sought to make light a tangible mass, but my recent works treat light as a liquid. They splash light on the wall, let it soak in, and flow down. The works owe an equal debt to the sacred stained glass, music venue light shows, and science kits I had as a child.”

  • The Department of Music presents this Fall's musical, A Grand Night for Singing (Directed by Ernest Green). This musical collects over 30 works by Rodgers & Hammerstein and turns them into something new with artful arrangements and grand interpretation.

  • This 1-day ceramic techniques workshop will introduce students to hand-carved decorative embellishments. Previous clay experience is required. Students will be provided leather hard ceramic tiles for instruction and are encouraged to bring one or two simple forms to practice with at the end of the session. Leather-hard to hard-leather is preferred, and please use smooth clay. Students are also encouraged to bring some soft pencils, a flexible ruler, and some simple sample geometric designs and sketches for inspiration.

    Since re-opening to the public in 2015, Sumner Hall has been collecting information about African American men and women who served in the uniformed services of the U. S. from Revolutionary War days to the present time. This comprehensive exhibit tells their stories.

  • The National Music Festival will present the Thalea String Quartet at its next Resonance Series concert. The program will feature works spanning from Dvorak’s "American Quartet" to The Beatles-inspired "Abbey Road Suite." Noted for performances that “reflect the past, present and future” of string quartet music, the ensemble is the Doctoral Fellowship Quartet at the University of Maryland. Thalea (pronounced TAH-lee-ah), from the Greek name Thaleia, means to flourish or blossom.

This will include creating a class structure, identifying learning goals and objectives, measuring student success, and using technology, such as Zoom, to create your class. This will focus on both how to teach in person and virtually.
