    Join Sharon Herz & Ann Farley for this accountability & inspiration group as we read & work through this influential book. Sharon & Ann are simply there to guide the group -- and we may see if each participant would like to take the lead on one week's discussion.

    This program requires the use of the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. We will be using the 25th anniversary edition.

  • This pottery course offers students a 6-week intensive workshop for the wheel. Each week we will address new throwing techniques and finishing options while exploring scale, design, construction, and finishing throughout the process. If you are looking for a skills refresh or just want to expand your ceramics repertoire, this class is for you!

    The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Tuesdays, running from August 16th through September 20th.

    Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay and six Open Studio tickets.

  • The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from August 17th through September 21st. (6 weeks)

    This course introduces basic pottery wheel techniques to beginning students with a focus on throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Students will be shown the step-by-step process of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing clay into finished pieces. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.

    Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay.

    This course introduces the fundamentals of handbuilding to students of any experience level. Students will learn the process of handbuilding through pinching, coiling and slab building clay, and glaze their work into finished pieces to take home with them. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills.

  • An especially unique and poignant "First Friday with Joe Holt" highlights the music and legacy of Billy Penn Burger; a much loved regional (DE/PA) musician and songwriter. Billy's music remains deeply special to all who hear it. Joe (keyboard) will be joined by Billy Penn Burger band alumni Steve Prentice (piano) and Nick Bucci (guitar), along with Keli Vale and Sharon Sable (vocals), and Ray Anthony (drums). This rocking band will perform Billy's originals along with covers (Van Morrison, Pete Seeger, and more) from the original band repertoire.

  • In the handbuilding space at RiverArts Clay Studio in downtown Chestertown, MD -- or outside if the weather is nice!

    Over the four weeks you will be able to create at least four different items and watch them take shape week on week, for yourself or for unique gifts. It’s your choice! Paintings; shells for trinket trays; ceramics; stones for decorations or paperweights; plant pots to show off your horticultural treasures (we may even have small plants for you!).

    All you need to bring is an old plate to use as a palette. Everything else will be provided.

  • RiverArts has an interest in acquiring photographs from the 10th anniversary RiverArts Street Festival for future promotions and is sponsoring a contest for the best festival photos. The winner will be awarded a $100 prize, and will be announced in the local press along with five runners-up. Each photographer can submit up to ten images. Artists must pre-register and should plan to arrive at RiverArts Gallery Sunday, September 11 between 12:00-1:00 p.m. to check in. Artists will have 2 hours to explore the downtown Chestertown area and complete a Quick Draw painting. Artists are asked to return to Fountain Park at 3:00 p.m. to set up their paintings on easels for viewing and judging by a judge.

  • The stories are droll, the portraits affectionate, the humor infectious, and the fun unending. Sometimes absurd, sometimes melancholy, but always enjoyable, it is a modern take on the essence of Chekov featuring various comedic styles and characterizations.

  • Chuck Redd's tribute to world-famous guitarist Charlie Byrd on the day of his birth will present an overview of Charlie Byrd’s remarkable career. Chuck will be joined by Nate Najar, often cited by music critics as the heir apparent to Charlie Byrd, and Herman Burney on the stand-up bass. The program will touch on Byrd's landmark 1962 Jazz Samba album that helped launch the bossa nova movement. The trio also will touch on repertoire that Charlie loved from The American Popular Songbook with compositions by Gershwin, Ellington and Rodgers and Hart.

  • The class will be held at the Clay Studio (and in the street nearby) from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on Saturday September 17th.

    Students will learn the process of raku firing by glazing self-supplied bisque ware, learning how to load and unload a raku kiln, and experiencing smoked reduction. Students may participate in the process throughout, if they feel comfortable! Come observe, learn, and participate as Brett will fire his kilns many times in a single day.

    All students are expected to bring pre-fired bisqueware to this class. Using a raku clay body is HIGHLY recommended.
