Kent County Arts and Entertainment Events- September 2023

The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 2 - 4:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from September 7th through October 12th. (6 weeks)

This course introduces the fundamentals of handbuilding to students of any experience level. Students will learn the process of handbuilding through pinching, coiling and slab building clay, and glaze their work into finished pieces to take home with them. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills.

Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay.

The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Thursdays, running from September 7th through October 26th. (8 weeks)

Students will be introduced to basic wheel techniques and informational context while learning to create hand-made pottery. This class is deliberately paced with additional time devoted to the artistic process. The encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.

Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay and six Open Studio tickets.

Pizza and Make a Thing is a program series for teens where we eat pizza and make a thing.

Tuition: $150, Materials fee: $40, paid directly to the instructor

Did you know that you can make silver earrings out of clay? In this exciting workshop, students discover the fascinating properties of precious metal clay, while learning how to properly work with it in the wet and greenware state and post-firing. In this beginner class, we will cover techniques including two-sided texture, stone setting, torch firing and finishing. We will also go over polishing, creating ear wires and discuss kiln-firing and other types of clay.

The Shore Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce the September 2023 tour of Much Ado About Nothing. This is the 10th year of the Company that was founded in 2013. Our mission is to bring the works of William Shakespeare to the Eastern Shore and present free, outdoor performances for the public at Wilmer Park in Chestertown on September 15, 16 and 17.

This course introduces basic pottery wheel techniques to beginning students with a focus on throwing bowl and cylinder forms. Students will be shown the step-by-step process of wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, and glazing clay into finished pieces. Class time and the encouraged Open Studio practice time will enable students to create at their own level and improve their skills with clay.

Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay.

The class will be held at the Clay Studio from 6 - 8:30 pm on Wednesdays, running from September 20th through October 25th. (6 weeks) It is intended to be a "next step" for returning beginners, but can easily accommodate new students who like a challenge!

Students will expand and refine their skillset through skills instruction and weekly project assignment. The Class setting provides great opportunity to move beyond the basic techniques and deepen your experience with wheel-thrown clay.

Included with instruction is twenty-five pounds of cone 6 clay and six Open Studio tickets.

You know your art and the achievements you’re most proud of, but how do you describe yourself as an artist? From your website portfolio to applications for grants & residencies, the ability to write a strong artist bio is an essential part of your professional toolkit. It can often feel like a daunting task to sum up who you are and what you do in this concise way; but in this workshop, we’ll learn how to simplify that process.

We open the season with the Alejandro Brittes Quartet, based out of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. The unique ensemble innovatively explores the traditional, cross-border chamamé musical genre whose epicenter is northeast Argentina, a confluence of indigenous Guaraní and Iberian Baroque influences, slow-cooked over centuries.
