Kent County offers an education program for each preferred style of institution, including the most unique of styles to ensure a well-rounded education and development process of the children in our community.
Kent County has an excellent public school system which consists of five elementary schools, a partnership pre-school, one middle school and one high school. In 2013, Millington Elementary School was named “Character Education School of the Year” by the Maryland Center for Character Education at Stevenson University. In 2016, Kent County High School students performed exceptionally well on the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exams and the school was featured in the news for their superior scores compared to others in the state of Maryland.
Kent County offers private school education at Kent School and Chestertown Christian Academy. Kent School in Chestertown offers a K-8 environment with a close relationship between education and home-life, and the mission of guiding students to become honorable, well-rounded citizens. Chestertown Christian Academy offers a K-12 program with the purpose of providing students with quality academics and spiritual enrichment in their journey to becoming honorable citizens.
The County of Kent offers unique educational options as well, such as Radcliffe Creek School and Echo Hill Outdoor School. Radcliffe Creek School caters to those with learning differences, offering them a customized education wherein strengths are cultivated and weaknesses eliminated through positivity and encouragement. Echo Hill Outdoor School offers an education opportunity where students enjoy an outdoor classroom setting and unconventional, interactive hands-on learning. It is offered for those who love to be in touch with the natural world and draw conclusions about the natural world.
When it comes to higher education, Kent County offers excellence in the form of Washington College, and maintains a close relationship with Chesapeake College in nearby Wye Mills, MD. Washington College was founded in 1782 to educate citizens to run the new democracy, and upholds a tradition of high standards in a liberal arts education with approximately 1,500 undergraduate students from all over the world enrolled annually. Chesapeake College, founded in 1965, offers excellence and affordability to those of the Eastern Shore, with approximately 2,000 students enrolled annually.
