Chester River Kayak Adventures Offering a New Land-based Adventure

Guided Nature Tour of Eastern Neck Island National Wildlife Refuge

A tour of Eastern Neck NWR, five miles south of Rock Hall, focuses on the history of the Refuge and its seasonal and permanent wildlife. Guests meet at the bridge to the island and travel in their cars to Tubby Cove's marsh boardwalk and observation blind, hike the Duck Inn Trail to waters edge, visit Bogle's Wharf to see the broad expanse of the lower Chester River, visit the colonial home-site of Captain Lambert Wikes, view the Butterfly Garden and Overlook, visit the Fish and Wildlife Services Headquarters Lodge and Friends of Eastern Neck's Gift Shop, and end at Ingleside Recreation area for refreshments and wrap-up.

Visitors are likely to see Bald Eagles, Osprey, and great Blue Herons, Canada Geese, as well as Tundra Swans and a variety of ducks that make the island their home seasonally. Join our knowledgeable guide to learn about aquatic creatures such as bay Oysters, Cow-Nosed Rays, and the rich history of shell fishing from colonial time to the present.

Remember to bring a hat, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellant. A good pair of binoculars will enhance your experience. You will come away with a broader appreciation of the unique role the Refuge plays in the Chesapeake Bay ecology.
