The Honorable Board of License Commissioners met today with
the following present: Roy W. Crow, Scott D. Livie, and William W. Pickrum,
presiding.
Mauritz Stetson, Alcoholic Beverage Inspector, was also in attendance.
APPLICATION RENEWALS
Mr. Stetson reported about the 2004 Spring Alcohol License Renewals, distributing
copies of the list of renewals, and expressed his appreciation for the
effective efforts of, Laura Coleman, Secretary, whom he cited as instrumental
in his receipt of the prompt responses from many of the licensees.
A motion was made by Commissioner Crow, seconded by Commissioner Livie,
and made unanimous by Commissioner Pickrum to accept the forty-seven (47)
2004 Spring Alcoholic Beverage License Renewals applications as submitted.
BAY CITY LODGE
Mr. Stetson reported that he spoke with Ina May Puppe Reed, resident of
Rock Hall, concerning her complaint conveyed in correspondence, dated
March 29, 2004, about what she believes to be, illegal activities that
have taken place at the Elks Lodge on Lovers Lane in Rock Hall, and her
request that these concerns be addressed during the review of the Alcoholic
Beverage renewal application.
Mr. Stetson reported that he advised Mrs. Reed that she has provision
under law to protest renewal by acquiring a petition of same with the
signatures of 10 citizens which would qualify her complaint eligible for
a public hearing.
Mr. Stetson also reported that the Sheriff has met with Mrs. Reed and
the leadership of the Bay City Lodge relating to concerns raised.
SPECIAL LICENSE
The Commissioners approved the following Special Licenses: a one-day only
Class C, Beer, Wine and Liquor License for The Kent County Community Band,
for their fund-raising event to take place at the Chesapeake Bank Trust
Company, Chestertown, on April 24, 2002; and two one-day only Class C,
Beer and Wine Licenses for The Mainstay, Inc., for the musical performances
to take place at The Mainstay Building, 5753 Main Street, Rock Hall, on
the following dates: May 28 and 30, 2004.
There being no further business to claim their attention, the Board adjourned
to meet again on Tuesday, April 27, 2004.
